POST Studio launches

POST is a new artist-led cultural space in an underserved part of Brighton & Hove that I’ve launched with fellow photographer, Nina Emett. Together we’ve secured a 3,000 sq/ft industrial unit a few minutes from Hove train station.

Why POST, and why now?

Our city has long been a magnet for creativity — but rising rents, redevelopment, and cost-of-living pressures are pushing artists out. Affordable studios are vanishing. Waiting lists are long. And major hubs like New England House are being shut down, leaving hundreds of artists without a space to work. There is a growing divide between cultural value and economic sustainability.

With this in mind we launched a Kickstarter campaign in July 2025 to raise the necessary funds to turn an underused industial unit into a vibrant cultural offering. With over 250 backers we surpassed our goal of raising £25k within 21 days, and finally banked £28,470. The response was fantastic, not just from a local audience but the wider British photographic community.

We took possession of the unit at the beginning of September and have spent the past few months building-out the studio.

POST houses affordable artist studios, a high-spec photographic studio, community B&W darkroom, creatives co-working zone, photobook library, exhibition & events space and kitchen. Our year-round cultural programme includes exhibitions, artist talks, film screenings, cultural supper clubs & social events whilst our education programme consists of workshops, courses & masterclasses available to all levels of practitioners, from complete beginners to seasoned professionals.

POST isn’t just about providing space. It’s about making space — for collaboration, for ideas, and for tackling the biggest issues of our time through art and creativity. We aim to bring together artists, local residents, community groups, and public sector partners in ‘creative solutions labs’ to collectively explore addressing challenges like inequality, homelessness, the climate crisis and biodiversity loss in the city and beyond.

It’s through POST’s comprehensive membership scheme that you can access our diverse and affordable services and facilities and build the community and network you need to support you and your practice.
